THE SPIRITUALITY OF LOVE

1 Corinthians 13

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. Heb. 11:1 (Mes)

John 3:16

1 John 4:16, 18

We love because he first loved us … And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. 1 John 4:19, 21

1. Speak with love.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Cor. 13:1

2. Serve with love.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 1 Cor. 13:2

3. Give with love.

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1 Cor. 13:3

WHEN IS LOVE REAL LOVE?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Cor. 13:4-7

When:

  • Love is patient.
  • Love is kind.
  • Love does not envy.
  • Love does not boast.
  • Love is not arrogant.
  • Love is not rude.
  • Love is not self-seeking.
  • Love is not easily angered.
  • Love does not keep score.
  • Love does not rejoice over wrong.
  • Love rejoices with the truth.
  • Love always protects.
  • Love always believes.
  • Love always hopes.
  • Love always perseveres.

WHAT IS MY RESPONSE?

1. Die to self.

2. Surrender to His leadership.

3. Obey God’s Word.

“I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in me and I in him shall produce a large crop of fruit. For apart from me you can’t do a thing.” John 15:5 (TLB)

God’s love lasts.

Love never fails. …these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor. 13:8, 13
