WHAT WE CAN’T ACHIEVE: A RIGHTEOUS LIFE

1 Corinthians 15:21-22

“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?” Jer. 17:9 (NLT)

For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 1 Cor. 15:21-22

For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Rom. 5:17

  • We are to rule over sin and death in the new life Jesus gives us that is everlasting.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE “RIGHTEOUS”?

WHY IS IT A GIFT?

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Rom. 5:15

Our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. … For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. Heb. 10:12,14 (NLT)

HOW CAN I RESPOND?

1. Ask God to reveal what’s hidden in my heart of hearts.

“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.” Jer. 17:9-10 (Mes)

2. Position myself for God’s Spirit to make me holy.

I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself. 1 Cor. 9:26-27 (Mes)

Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, Phil. 2:12

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. Eph. 1:4

…who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ… 1 Peter 1:2

3. Cleanse my life with God’s Word.

Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, Eph. 5:25-26
