FAITH AND DOUBT

THE GIFT OF UNCERTAINTY

Judges 6:11-17

June 26, 2016

Genesis 2:16-17 (NIV) And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."

Genesis 3:1 (NIV) "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

3 KINDS OF DOUBT GONE BAD

1. SKEPTICISM

John 20:25 (NIV) "Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe it."

If you're skeptical, choose to be intellectually honest.

 2. CYNICISM

John 18:38 (NLT) "What is truth?"

Matthew 27:24 (NIV) When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. "I am innocent of this man's blood," he said. "It is your responsibility!"

If you're cynical, choose to accept responsibility.

3. UNBELIEF

1 Samuel 13:13 (NLT) "How foolish!" Samuel exclaimed. " You have disobeyed the command of the LORD your God. Had you obeyed, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever."

If you're unbelieving, choose to want to believe.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (Message) Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He's the one who will keep you on track.
