Can God Be Trusted

October 2, 2016

But you, O LORD, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

Psalm 86:15 (NIV)

1.     God is holy and merciful

In a great chorus they sang, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD almighty!"

Isaiah 6:3 (NLT)

2.      God is sovereign over all life

"Don't be bluffed into silence by the threats of bullies. There's nothing they can do to your soul, your core being. Save you fear for God, who holds your entire life---body and soul---in His hands."

Matthew 10:27-28 (Message)

3.     God's actions are merciful

But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.

Isaiah 7:16 (NIV)

"But now that the baby is dead, why should I go without food? I can't bring him back to life. Some day I will go to him, but he cannot come back to me."

2 Samuel 12:23 (NCV)

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Matthew 19:14 (NIV)

4.     God's nature demands that He deals with evil

All the world stands hushed and guilty before Almighty God.

Romans 3:19 (TLB)

5.     Those who repent and choose to follow God are saved

But now God has shown us a different way to heaven---not by "being good enough" and trying to keep His laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says He will accept and aquit us---declare us "not guilty"---if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, ny coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.

Romans 3:21-22 (TLB)
