HOW CAN A LOVING GOD SEND PEOPLE TO HELL?

WHAT HELL IS NOT

"As surely as I live," declares the Sovereign LORD, "I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live."

Exekiel 33:11 (NIV)

1. It is not a torture chamber

2. It is not someone else's choice for you

3. Hell does not mean that God is not a loving being

WHAT HELL IS

"And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the knogdom of God with one eye than to have twon eyes and be thrown into hell, where 'the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'"

Mark 9:47-48 (NIV)

"There will be weeping there, and gnashing fo teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out."

Luke 13:28 (NIV)

1. It is punishment; not punishing

2. It is a physical place

3. It is described in a figurative way

4. It will be experienced literally

5. It is the end of a path that is chosen through life

 HOW DOES GOD HANDLE HELL?

1. God does not send children to hell

"But now that the baby is dead, why should I go without food? I can't bring him back to life. Some day I will go to him, but he cannot come back to me."

2 Samuel 12:23 (NCV)

2. Everyone does not suffer the same in hell

Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. "Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgement than for you."

 Matthew 11:20-22 (NIV)

3. God doesn't force everyone to go to heaven

4. God doesn't annihilate people

5. Those in heaven will not mourn for those in hell

Now we see things imperfectly as in a poor mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God knows me now.

 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NLT)

He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more deaths or sorrow or srying or pain. For the old world and its evils are gone forever.

  Revelation 21:4 (NLT)

6. God does not give people a second chance

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement,

  Hebrews 9:27 (NIV)

HOW WILL YOU RESPOND?

1. Decide what's true based on the evidence, not likes or dislikes

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know.

  Proverbs 3:5 (GNB)

Truth will continue forever,

  Proverbs 12:19 (NCV)

2. Let the truth motivate you to seek God and find him

3. Take your choice very seriously

Don;t you realize how kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Or don't you care? Can't you see how kind He has been in giving you time to turn from your sin? But no, you won't listen. So you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself because of your stubborness in refusing to turn from your sin. For there is going to come a day of judgement when God, the just judge of all the world, will judge all people according to what they have done.

  Romans 2:4-6 (NLT)
