THE NEED FOR DESIGN – Part 1 of 3

1 Corinthians 11:1-6

THE BIG FIVE

1. Self-indulgence

2. Rebellion

3. Confusion

4. Disorder

5. Disrespect

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Prov. 19:21

God’s plan for the world stands up, all his designs are made to last. Psa. 33:11 (Mes)

  • We grow into a healthy loving family of God when we honor God’s design of the male/female relationship.

PREREQUISITES FOR HEALTHY LOVING RELATIONSHIPS

1. We live in the culture but the culture doesn’t have to live in us.

“… they are still in the world … they are not of the world ...” John 17:11, 14

2. Submission between men and women is mutual.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Eph. 5:21

3. God commands husbands to love as Jesus loved.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Eph. 5:25

4. In that kind of Jesus-love, wives submit to their husband’s leadership.

Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. Eph. 5:22

GOD’S DESIGN FOR THE CHURCH FAMILY

  • God’s design is reflected in authority.

And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. I am so glad that you always keep me in your thoughts, and that you are following the teachings I passed on to you. But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 1 Cor. 10:1-4

  • God’s design is reflected in holy behavior.

But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. 1 Cor. 11:5-6
