THE NEED FOR DESIGN – Part 2 of 3

Evil words destroy; godly skill rebuilds. Proverbs 11:9 (TLB)

COMMON CAUSES OF CONFLICT

WRONG CHOICES FOR CONFLICT IN RELATIONSHIPS

I make more trouble when I choose to:

1. Block my feelings.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, Proverbs 13:12

2. Blame the other person

A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance. Proverbs 28:13 (TLB)

3. Take revenge.

A sound mind makes for a robust body, but runaway emotions corrode the bones. Proverbs 14:30 (Mes)

4. Repress my feelings.

An anxious heart weighs a man down, Proverbs 12:25

5. Fight for my cause.

A fool gets into constant fights. His mouth is his undoing! His words endanger him. Proverbs 18:6-7 (TLB)

RIGHT CHOICES FOR CONFLICT IN RELATIONSHIPS

I resolve conflict when I choose:

1. The big picture instead of the little one.

Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Proverbs 3:5-7 (Mes)

2. My angle.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28 (NLT)

3. My reaction.

A gentle answer will calm a person’s anger, but an unkind answer will cause more anger. Proverbs 15:1 (NCV)

Kind words are like honey—enjoyable and healthful. Proverbs 16:24 (TLB)

4. My feelings.

The cheerful heart has a continual feast. Proverbs 15:15

5. My reward.

“Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. Stop criticizing others, or it will all come back on you. If you forgive others, you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37 (NLT)

6. Wisdom.

To learn, you must want to be taught. To refuse reproof is stupid. Proverbs 12:1 (TLB)
