THE NEED FOR DESIGN – Part 3 of 3

1 Corinthians 11:7-16

  • We grow into a healthy loving family of God when we honor God’s design of the male/female relationship.

GOD’S DESIGN FOR THE CHURCH FAMILY

  • God’s design is reflected in authority. vs. 1-4
  • God’s design is reflected in holy behavior. vs. 5-6

  • God’s design is reflected in the male/female distinction.

A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 1 Cor. 11:7

  • God’s design is reflected in the male/female relationship.

For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man … For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. 1 Cor. 11:8-9, 12

  • God’s design is reflected in respect.

1. Respect for the husband.

Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Eph. 5:33

2. Respect for the angels.

It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels. 1 Cor. 11:10

  • God’s design is reflected in the honor of women.

Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 1 Cor. 11:11

  • God’s design is reflected in the sphere of Christ.

1 Cor. 11:11

  • God’s design is reflected in consensus.

Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 1 Cor. 11:13

  • God’s design is reflected in nature.

Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God. 1 Cor.11:14-16
