THE LORD’S SUPPER

1 Corinthians 11:17-34

But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way. 1 Cor. 14:40

If we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. 1 Cor. 11:31

  • DISCERNING MYSELF IS GOOD FOR ME.

In the following instructions, I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together. 1 Cor. 11:17 (NLT)

Jer. 29:11

1. DISCERNING MYSELF I RESPECT MATURITY.

For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part I believe it. For there must also be factions among you, so that those who are approved may become evident among you. 1 Cor. 11:18-19 (NAS)

2. DISCERNING MYSELF I HONOR GOD’S FAMILY.

So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers. As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk. Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God by humiliating those who have nothing? 1 Cor. 11:20-22

3. DISCERNING MYSELF KEEPS ME FROM SINNING.

So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 1 Cor. 11:27-28

4. DISCERNING MYSELF KEEPS ME FROM JUDGMENT.

For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 1 Cor. 11:29-30

Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world. 1 Cor. 11:32 (NLT)

5. DISCERNING MYSELF I SERVE OTHERS.

So then, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you will not come together for judgment… 1 Cor. 11:33-34
